ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis County Councilman is pushing for a state investigation into Cora Faith Walker’s death. Tim Fitch issued a memorandum Sunday stating that he will request the Missouri Highway Patrol conduct an investigation into Walker’s death. He is requesting a resolution be drafted for Tuesday’s County Council meeting
Walker, a top aide to St. Louis County Executive Sam Page and a former State Representative, died suddenly earlier this month.
Fitch wants the Missouri Highway Patrol to conduct an independent, thorough, and unbiased investigation. He says there have been media reports stating her death happened in St. Louis City and that Mayor Tishaura Jones was her good friend.
His memorandum also says, “the mayor and Walker were apparently together at some point during the evening of her death. Fitch goes on to say the mayor has direct authority over the city police and fire departments who have jurisdiction where the death occurred. These facts create a direct conflict.”
Fitch also says there have been reports that a federal law enforcement agency is involved. He says only a law enforcement agency with state authority can investigate potential state offenses. Since the death occurred in the city of St. Louis, the investigation can only be handled by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
St. Louis Public Safety director Dan Isom and a staffer for Mayor Jones both dismissed the investigation. Isom laid out the timeline of events regarding the investigation. You can read more about the investigation here.
