After a series of storms featuring high winds and coastal flooding, Maine is facing a storm today that is milder, but still promises at least several inches of snow statewide.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for northern Maine until 1 a.m. Wednesday and a winter weather advisory for southern parts of the state until 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Snow is expected statewide, with as much as a foot falling in northern areas, along with 6-10 inches in central areas and 4-8 inches in the Downeast part of the state, where a light glaze of ice is also expected, according to the weather service.

Snow may impact the evening commute, but already in southern Maine, there are signs of planning ahead.

The Maine Turnpike Authority has reduced the speed limit to 45 mph, as snow has already started to fall in some areas.

The Portland School Department has announced that the school day will end two hours early, with all after-school activities canceled. The Augusta School Department has also announced Tuesday will be an early release day.

The city of Portland issued a parking ban Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Any vehicles on the street after 10 p.m. will be towed at the owner’s expense.

“A citywide parking ban is necessary for this storm due to the combination of the forecasted amount of snow, below freezing temperatures expected for the remainder of the week, and the amount of Public Works plowing staff available,” city officials said in a statement.

In other areas Tuesday morning, business was functioning as usual. As of 11 a.m., there was no indication of any delays of the DownEaster train service.

The Portland Jetport only listed five arriving flights being delayed today, with four departing flights delayed this afternoon and one canceled. Three flights out of Bangor International Airport were listed as delayed.

Power outages were at a minimum Tuesday morning. Central Maine Power showed 63 outages, while Versant reported 52 customers without power. By 4 p.m., CMP only reported three customers out, while Versant had no outages at all.
