After temperatures crashed over the weekend, a storm system pushing through the region is bringing parts of Maine its first accumulating snow of the season.

What You Need To Know

  • A storm system is bringing rain and snow into the state through Monday

  • Northern Maine gets its first accumulating snow of the season

  • Winter Weather Advisories are in place across the state’s northern counties

Even though it's still October, we're cold enough for snow and a chilly rain around the state. Precipitation will fall throughout the day with only minor lulls from time to time, finally tapering off Monday evening.

Northern Maine will see snow or a mix, while southern Maine has a cold rain.

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued across the state’s interior through Monday evening. This is where the most snow, as well as the greater travel impacts, will be.

In northern Maine, snowfall totals should range between 2 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts. Totals will quickly drop off in central Maine in the rain/snow transition area, with minor slushy accumulations possible in the Bangor area.

Closer to the coast, only rain is expected.

Be prepared

Amounts aside, any accumulations combined with falling snow could lead to hazardous travel conditions. Not only could visibility be reduced, but any untreated roads will become slippery, too.

However, even places that don’t see snow will have slower travel. Drivers could still encounter slick roads from the rain and fallen leaves.
