All state offices will be closed Tuesday in anticipation of a messy winter storm headed for Maine.

“The storm arriving tomorrow is expected to create dangerous driving conditions, especially during the morning and evening commutes,” Gov. Janet Mills said in a statement. “I encourage Maine people to stay off the roads if they can, plan for extra time if traveling, and give plenty of space to road crews and first responders working hard to keep us safe.”

The National Weather Service is predicting 8-12 inches of snow for much of the state, with wind gusts up to 50 mph.

A winter storm warning will be in effect from 5 a.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday.

Central Maine Power is warning of “heavy, wet snow” and said it is bringing in additional crews to be prepared.
