Much of northern and western Maine was under a Winter Storm Warning Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

A mixture of snow and rain along the southern coastal areas and along the I-95 corridor meant slipper roads and headaches for morning commuters, but Maine State Police reported no major accidents. Farther north, snowfall totals were heavier, with as much as 11.5 inches falling in Carrabassett Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm knocked out power to many Mainers. As of 4 p.m., Central Maine Power was reporting 22 customeres were without power. Versant Power reported 11 customers in the dark.

Dozens of school districts across Maine, such as Bangor and Windham, canceled school for the day.

Others, such as Augusta and RSU 57 in Waterboro, opened with a two-hour delay. In southenr parts of the state, communities such as Portland and Lewiston did not report any closures or delays at all, while to the north, MSAD 17 in Oxford Hill and RSU 9 district, which covers Mount Blue, closed for the day.

Others, such as  RSU 19 in Newport and Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, started with a  two-hour delay. Some, such as MSAD 1 in Presque Isle, held a remote learning day.

Gov. Janet Mills on Wednesday afternoon delayed the opening of state government offices until 11 a.m. Thursday. Many local government offices and nonprofits also had delays and cancellations due to the storm.

This is a developing story.
