An unusual accident involving a tractor-trailer carrying a windmill blade in Stockton Springs caused traffic headaches on Route 1 Friday morning, according to Maine State Police.

The truck was carrying the single windmill fan blade from Searsport to Columbia when it struck the railroad bridge crossing the road at about 5:30 a.m.

According to police, the crash caused the truck to overturn.

State Police say because of the length of the windmill blade, turning the vehicle around is not feasible. They say the only viable option is to load the blade onto another trailer and reverse it back to Searsport.

According to State Police, it appears the blade will be moved back to Searsport early Saturday morning. In the meantime, Route 1 in the area will remain closed.

No one was hurt in the accident.
