Those driving through Randolph and Gardiner may find their commutes disrupted this summer.

The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing the surface of the Pearl Harbor Remembrance bridge.

The bridge spans the Kennebec River dividing Gardiner and Randolph.

According to the Department of Transportation, crews have been working on the project since May 22, and the project is expected to be complete by the end of September.

Two-way traffic in the area will remain throughout June, but a directional detour moving eastbound traffic to Randolph will begin July 8.

During this time, those traveling along the east side of the Kennebec River will need to travel north through Augusta or south to Dresden and Richmond.

The department expects two-way traffic across the bridge to be restored by August 16.

Department of Transportation spokesperson Paul Merrill says the total project is worth $3 million. He also says the funding was a combination of state and federal funding.

Wyman & Simpson, Inc. of Richmond is the contractor for this project.
