A tractor-trailer crashed on the Maine Turnpike in Wells on Monday afternoon, officials say.

State troopers responded to the crash shortly before 4:45 p.m. at mile marker 18, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

The vehicle was headed northbound when the driver lost control. The truck crashed through the median guardrail, went across the southbound lanes and came to rest in the treeline on the highway’s southbound side, Moss stated.

“The driver was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved in the incident,” Moss stated. “The crash is still under investigation, but driver fatigue appears to be a contributing factor. At this point no citations have been issued.”

“This crash had minimal effect on traffic flow both northbound and southbound,” Moss stated.
