A Bangor woman was believed to be killed at her home that was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

Dispatchers received a call shortly after 5:20 a.m. for a fire at 62 Fairways.

“Bangor Fire (Department) quickly knocked down the fire and located one victim who had perished in the fire,” Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said.

The victim was identified as Carla Durgin, 84, the resident and owner of the home. Her remains were sent to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta to confirm her identity.

“The Bangor Fire Department was assisted by the Air National Guard which is their closest mutual aid department,” Moss said.
