Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire in Aroostook County where remains were found among the debris.
Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department called the State Fire Marshal’s Office to a structure fire at 44 Emily Drive in Amity at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 23.
“The Houlton Fire Department found the building heavily damaged by fire,” according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Fire Marshal personnel found human remains among the fire debris.
The remains were sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for identification.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” the release states.
