A Clinton man was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Benton, officials said.
State police responded to the crash at about 4:17 p.m. near mile-marker 134 on the northbound side of the highway, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Isaiah Mathieu, 20, of Clinton was driving a Chevy Trax when he “failed to negotiate a bend in the roadway, before going off the right side and striking the guardrail,” the release stated. The vehicle then came into a ditch near the tree line.
It’s not known why the vehicle left the road, according to the release, but “speed and failure to negotiate the roadway are contributing factors.”
The incident is under investigation.
State troopers were assisted by Maine Department of Transportation, Clinton Fire Department and Blanchard’s Towing.
