A Gray man is wanted for an alleged assault and for allegedly leading police on a pursuit through Cumberland County, police say.
First responders received a report of an assault on Tower Road in Raymond at about 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Craig Smith.
“The victim … had serious facial and head injuries from being assaulted with a dangerous weapon,” Smith said.
The suspect, Jeremy Dunlap, 47, of Gray, allegedly drove off in a 2017 Jeep Renegade with Maine Breast Cancer plate 199-ATY. Angelique Tucker, 47, who is unhoused, was in the SUV with Dunlap, according to Smith.
The Jeep was found at the Windham Walmart parking lot, and was allegedly driven off before it could be stopped, Smith said. A deputy followed the Jeep on River Road.
“The vehicle failed to stop but stayed at or closely within the posted speed limits,” Smith said.
Police followed the Jeep into Westbrook, where the low-speed pursuit was terminated due to the risk to the public, according to Smith. “Deputies remained in sight of the suspect’s vehicle as the suspect vehicle slowed down and drove with the normal flow of traffic.”
The Jeep was allegedly driven back into Windham before heading East again, with police following.
Tire deflation spikes were deployed but failed to stop the Jeep, Smith said.
Police followed the Jeep back into Westbrook, then into Portland and South Portland onto the Maine Turnpike heading south.
State troopers deployed spikes on the turnpike.
“Just prior to the spikes the suspect vehicle moved to the far right lane and accelerated to 95 mph,” Smith said.
At that point, police stopped pursuing.
Dunlap is wanted for felony aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, in addition to a “host of other traffic charges,” Smith said.
The public is asked to call 911 if they sport Dunlap, but he should not be approached.
Tucker is not a suspect in the assault but she does have two active warrants for her arrest, Smith said. Anyone who sees her or knows where she may be should contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim who was allegedly assaulted in Raymond was transported to the Bridgton Hospital with serious injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
