A van crashed on the Maine Turnpike Monday morning, causing debris that disabled a second vehicle, officials said.
State police troopers responded to the crash at mile marker 14 in Ogunquit at 8:12 a.m., according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public safety.
According to the investigation, the driver of a commercial van was traveling north when the van lost control on wet pavement, rolling over in the media, the release stated.
“Debris including roofing nails, construction equipment and power tools were thrown from the van into southbound lanes 1 through 3,” the release stated. “A white Honda traveling southbound struck that debris, disabling the vehicle and deploying airbags causing minor injury to the female driver.”
Three out of four passengers in the van were not wearing seatbelts and were transported to Portsmouth Hospital in New Hampshire with serious but non- life-threatening injuries, the release states.
The driver of the van, Victor Miguel Cedillo, 39, of Brockton, Massachusetts, was not injured, according to the release.
“Speed and erratic operation appear to be factors in the crash,” the release stated. “The crash is still under investigation. Southbound lane 1 and 2 were shut down, and lane 3 was temporarily shut down for cleanup. Lane 1 Northbound was also shut down. All lanes have been reopened.”
