Waterville schools closed Monday after a body was found in the driver’s seat of a school bus parked at Waterville Junior High School.

Police received a call about 4:30 a.m. reporting that “there was a person slumped over the steering wheel of a bus” in the school parking lot, according to a press release from Waterville police. Officers found the person was deceased.

Chief William Bonney said detectives have concluded that it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. No foul play is suspected. The person was not a student or a school department employee, he said.

The person’s identity will not be released until after next of kin have been notified.

Superintendent Peter Hallen said in a statement that schools will be back open Tuesday.
