Portland police say two women drinking at the same Old Port establishment at the same time reported they were believed to have been drugged.
Police say they are investigating and reviewing video from both incidents. They did not disclose the name of the establishment or other details.
“In these types of incidents, victims report they suddenly feel extremely impaired and that it’s not consistent with the amount of alcohol they consumed,” police stated Monday in a news release. “They become disoriented, feel nauseous and suffer a loss of memory for a significant period of time. It takes them hours to recover from the effects of the incident and they don’t know what happened to them during this time.”
Police recommend the following:
- Never leave your drink unattended, keep it in your hand and don’t share it, especially with someone you don’t know.
- Don’t accept a drink from someone that you don’t know. If you do accept a drink, order it yourself, watch the bartender pour it and have them hand it to you.
- Go out with friends, stick together and watch out for each other. If something doesn’t seem right with you or the person you are with, get to a safe place and seek medical attention if needed.
- If you believe you or someone you are with has been drugged, seek immediate medical treatment. Make sure the doctor or nurse knows that you believe you have been drugged and ask if they are going to test for drugs.
