BANGOR — Former Maine lawmaker Sean Faircloth won a special election Tuesday to represent District 24 in the Maine House.
Unofficial results show Faircloth, a Democrat, defeating Republican Carolyn Fish 1,431 to 567, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. The district covers the east side of Bangor, the west side of Orono, a small part of Brewer and all of Veazie.
When Faircloth is sworn-in, he will join the Democratic House majority. The new totals will be 76 Democrats, 73 Republicans and two independents.
After polls closed, Faircloth thanked volunteers who helped with the campaign in a post on Facebook.
“Democracy depends on grassroots activism,” he wrote. “Optimism and compassion aren’t the Trump/Musk style, but our approach is strong.”
Last week, Faircloth, a 64-year-old former nonprofit executive, said he will focus on bringing more economic development to the Bangor area.
