The city of Portland has planted 153 new trees across the Bayside neighborhood over the last few months.
This comes as an initiative, known as the Bayside Tree Planting Project, looks to provide shade to areas of Bayside that lack tree coverage. The effort began back in June, city officials said last week.
There were a wide variety of tree species planted, some being Sassafras and American Yellowwood.
The project was funded through American Rescue Plan Act and Community Development grants.
City officials say along with planting trees, the city’s contractor, Nelson Property Services, replaced over 700 cubic yards of pavement and soil, replacing it with sandy loam to promote long-term growth and health of the new trees.
The trees will be watered throughout next season, city officials say.
