Starting Jan. 1, 2025, Maine’s minimum wage will be going from $14.15 to $14.65.

The increase comes from information made available by the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to Maine law, annual adjustments to the minimum wage are made based on the cost-of-living index for the Northeastern Region.

The Maine Department of Labor said there was a 3.6% increase in cost of living between August 2023 and August 2024.

The state’s new service employee minimum wage, known as the “tip wage,” will also see an increase next year. The current tip wage is $7.08, but starting next year, it will go up to $7.33.

This means that service employees must receive at least a cash wage of $7.33 from the employer.

Starting next year, the minimum salary not getting overtime must exceed 3,000 times the state’s minimum wage. This means that the new minimum salary threshold will be $1,128 per week, or $58,656 annually.

The Department of Labor says an individual can still earn more than the minimum wage and still be eligible for overtime.
