The Lewiston community will be marking six months since a shooter killed 18 people and wounded 13 in the worst incident of its kind in Maine.
A gathering will take place at SimardPayne Memorial Park in Lewiston on Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. The remembrance ceremony will include moments of silence and remarks.
The event is dependent on the weather.
Victims, and friends and family of victims have been invited to a closed, private event prior to the public gathering.
The shootings took place Oct. 25, 2023, at a bar and a bowling alley in Lewiston. The shootings led to thousands of people sheltering in their homes and the closing of schools, businesses and other offices during the subsequent manhunt.
The shooter, Robert Card, 40, an Army reservist, was found two days later, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Lisbon.
Thursday’s event is hosted by the Maine Resiliency Center, a resource hub for anyone impacted by the shootings.
Community Concepts, which manages the center, is asking the public to display candles in their windows Thursday evening.
Alternatively, people may send photos or video of their displays as part of the to resource@community-concepts.org, or to the MRC’s Facebook or Instagram pages.
