Police arrested a California man Tuesday and seized more than 3,000 marijuana plants after raiding a home in Harmony, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Police executed a search warrant at the home on Cooley Road at about 10 a.m. They found and confiscated 3,400 marijuana plants in the home and attached garage.

Police also seized more than $1,800 in cash and a 2017 Ford Transit van, along with “illegal drug-related equipment and illegal drug-related documentation.”

Police arrested Dongming Liao, 41, of California, on a charge of cultivation of marijuana (over 500 plants). He is being held on $5,000 bail.

“The search warrant was obtained after a months-long investigation into suspected illegal marijuana plant cultivation activities taking place at the residence/property,” police said in a statement.

Det. Lt. Carl Gottardi II, with the sheriff’s department, led the search team, which included sheriff’s deputies and detectives, along with federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the US Department of Homeland Security and US Customs and Border Protection. Detectives from the Waterville Police Department and investigators from the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy also participated in the search.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and may lead to more charges against Liao “and other individuals.”
