Maine’s two major electric utilities reported more than 25,000 customers in the dark Monday morning, as a fast-moving storm swept through the state with high winds.

As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, CMP was reporting more than 13,000 customers without power. Most of those were in Lincoln, Knox, Cumberland and York counties, with York County reporting more than 3,400 outages. By 1 p.m., the utility reported that number had dropped to just under 4,000 in total, with just under 1,300 still without power in York County.

The utility serves just over 673,000 customers statewide.

Versant reported more than 12,000 customers without power. Deer Isle had the most outages with more than 1,950. Other high concentrations included Stonington with more than 1,100 and Gouldsboro with more than 1,600 customers out. By 1 p.m., Versant reported just under 8,000 customers still out. Ellsworth had the most outages at 813.

The utility serves more than 166,500 customers.

The winds came from a storm that began moving through the state early this morning.

The National Weather Service indicated a high wind warning remained in effect until 11 a.m. Monday.

Winds were expected to gust as high as 65 mph in some locations. The service indicated the storm was moving fast, however, and would be clearing out of most locations by the afternoon.
