President Joe Biden approved Maine’s request for a disaster declaration following a June storm that caused severe damage in Oxford County.
The declaration follows a request by Gov. Janet Mills after heavy rain and flooding caused more than $2.6 million in infrastructure damage on June 26.
Thursday’s announcement from Mills and members of the state’s congressional delegation follows a similar announcement on Tuesday to help with recovery and repair efforts in Franklin County after a June 29 storm washed out roads and caused flooding.
Both declarations help state, local and tribal governments get access to grants to make repairs and other funds to develop hazard mitigation plans to help reduce future disaster losses.
