No one was hurt when a ferry briefly ran aground off Vinalhaven Wednesday morning, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

The vessel, the Captain Richard G. Spear, struck a ledge while pulling away from Vinalhaven at about 10:30 a.m. with 65 passengers and five crew members aboard.

According to the department, there were no injuries. The ferry returned to Vinalhaven to unload passengers, then went to a private marina in Rockland for inspection.

“There does not appear to be any significant damage to the hull of the vessel,” the department wrote in a statement.

The Coast Guard will investigate the incident.

The ferry runs between Vinalhaven and Rockland as part of the Maine State Ferry Service. The department its regular service would be performed by the Everett Libby on Thursday.
