President Joe Biden is heading to Auburn on Friday when he visits Maine to highlight his economic policies, the city’s mayor said.

Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque said other details about the visit will be released by the White House in the coming days, but that he’s excited to shine a spotlight on the city’s manufacturing sector.

“There’s a dozen manufacturers within Auburn he could go and visit,” Levesque said. “There’s options.”

On Monday, Biden’s weekly schedule teased a visit to Maine, saying he plans to highlight “how Bidenomics is driving a manufacturing boom and helping workers and innovators invent and make more in America.”

Levesque, a Republican, also acknowledged that Biden’s trip to Auburn has strategic value for the president’s 2024 reelection hopes as well.

In 2020, Auburn voted for Biden, but the city is in the state’s 2nd Congressional District, where Trump won one of Maine’s four electoral votes.

“Auburn is that quintessential swing city,” Levesque said. “If you highlight Auburn, you highlight a swing city that believes in bottom-up economics.”

This will be Biden’s first trip to Maine as president. Biden, a Democrat, will be on the November 2024 ballot facing a Republican opponent yet to be determined, although Trump is the clear frontrunner.
