Portland City Manager Danielle West is nominating a Massachusetts police chief to lead the force in Portland.
Mark Dubois, chief of police in Braintree, will be considered for the post by the City Council on Monday, according to a city press release.
“Mark has demonstrated a commitment to instilling trust, spurring collaboration, and communicating and working with diverse communities,” West said in a statement. “He has a deep understanding of the law and a passion for contributing to the advancement of his profession.”
Prior to working as chief in Braintree, Dubois was chief in Maynard, Massachusetts, and has worked for police departments in Sutton, Northborough and Shrewsbury, all in Massachusetts.
A military reservist, he holds a law degree from New England Law School and has completed training at the FBI National Academy.
If confirmed by the City Council, he will be the first permanent police chief in Portland since 2021 when Chief Frank Clark stepped down to take a job in corporate security.
The police chief's salary is $165,000 a year, and if confirmed, Dubois would start his new job July 31.
