A Maine child who tested positive for measles on May 5 was not contagious, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that the strain of the virus the child had was not infectious.

Prior to this incident, the last confirmed case of measles in Maine was in 2019.

Maine CDC recommended that everyone in Maine, including children, should have the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. Children should get their first dose between 12 and 15 months of age, and the second dose between ages 4 and 6.

Maine CDC also recommended adults born in 1957 or later have proof of immunity to measles. Proof could include written documentation confirming vaccinations or evidence of immunity from a lab test.
