A Brewer commercial real estate broker will lead the Maine Democratic Party for the next two years.

The Democratic State Committee voted Sunday to elect Bev Uhlenhake as party chairwoman and Julian Rogers of Ogunquit as vice-chairman, according to a party press release.

“My dad was a factory worker and a farmer, so I was raised in a farming community with union values,” Uhlenhake said in a statement. “He taught me at a young age that, as Democrats, we don’t leave people behind.”

Uhlenhake will replace Rep. Drew Gattine (D-Westbrook), who announced late last year that he would not seek another term as chairman.

Uhlenhake had been party vice-chair and is a former Brewer mayor. She works as chief development officer at Sky Villa Properties in Veazie.

Republicans are scheduled to vote on party leadership on Saturday.
