The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program recently received $50,000 from Spectrum Community Center Assist to help develop a job skills training program and pay for facility improvements.

On Saturday, Spectrum kicked off a partnership with KVCAP in Waterville, where employees and volunteers made repairs and other improvements to a community center on Water Street. In addition to the donation, Spectrum is offering KVCAP free high-speed broadband for the life of the program, according to a press release from Spectrum.

The company also donated 25 new laptops to support the group’s training and technology programs.

“KVCAP is so thankful and honored to have been selected by Charter Communications as a partner in their Spectrum Community Center Assist initiative,” Suzanne Walsh, CEO of KVCAP, said in a press release. “This will help us to further our mission to strengthen individuals, families and communities.”

The donation is part of the company’s five-year, $30 million philanthropic initiative to invest in rural and urban underserved communities. Spectrum is owned by Charter Communications, a broadband and cable company in 41 states. Charter also owns Spectrum Networks, of which Spectrum News Maine is a part.
