A closure of part of I-295 through Portland that was supposed to happen last fall is now scheduled to happen in April.

The closure of a section over Veranda Street is necessary so that crews can move a new bridge structure into place, replacing a 60-year-old bridge that has reached the end of its lifespan.

The new dates call for the busy highway to close on the evening of Friday, April 22, and to reopen late morning on Monday, April 25.

The closure was originally been planned for October but had to be postponed because of supply chain problems for key materials.

Site work was halted for the winter months, but crews were to return to the job site in late February and early March.
