A new pilot project means 25,000 Maine households are eligible to receive free at-home COVID-19 tests, the governor’s office announced Friday.
Maine is one of six states partnering with The Rockefeller Foundation to increase access to testing. Mainers who live in areas identified by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention as socially vulnerable will be eligible to receive five free tests.
About one-quarter of Maine ZIP codes qualify as socially vulnerable, which refers to the potential negative effect on communities caused by external stresses, according to a press release from Gov. Janet Mills.
