Friday

Free Showing of “The Polar Express”
10 a.m. at Flagship Cinemas in Thomaston
Kick off the holiday weekend with a free showing of the “The Polar Express” on Christmas Eve. What better way to get into the spirit than being transported to the North Pole while enjoying fresh popcorn and sweets? Tickets are first-come, first-served. For directions to the theater, click here

Rhymetime: For Babies, Toddlers and Grownups
10:30-11 a.m. at the Waterville Library
Spend a fun afternoon with the kiddos in the comfort of your home during the Waterville Library’s holiday “rhymetime.” Featuring kid-friendly music and early literacy read-aloud you can livestream the event on the library’s Facebook page. If you’re looking for a fun craft ahead of the stream, check out the library’s “How to Make a Shaker” instruction video. There’s a variety of options to help you make a shaker egg with objects lying around the home that will certainly get you in the groove Friday.

Disney On Ice
11 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland
Spend the afternoon with Mickey Mouse and his friends as they put on an ice-tacular show at the Cross Insurance Arena. Tickets can be purchased online at Vividseats

Public Skate
1-3 p.m. at the Maine Ice Vault in Hallowell
Listen to good music and skate circles around the Maine Ice Vault in Hallowell this Sunday during public skating. Whether you have never tried ice skating before or you're a seasoned skater, it is the perfect setting for the whole family. Tickets are $7.25 for the afternoon and can be purchased in advance on Eventbrite

"Home Fires: Freedom and Captivity"
Noon-5 p.m. at the University of New England Art Gallery in Biddeford
Part of a statewide exhibition partnership, “Freedom and Captivity,” “Home Fires,” depicts the narrative of the families and loved ones of incarcerated people. Featured artists in this exhibit have experienced incarceration in their immediate or distant families and are using this concept as a theme in their work in hopes to shine a light on what incarceration can mean for those on the other side.
