Maine is reporting 938 coronavirus cases and three more deaths as of Wednesday, with hospitalizations back at record highs this week.
Four more people have been hospitalized since Tuesday, for a current total of 334, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. There are 99 people in critical care and 49 people on ventilators, with 61 critical care beds available statewide.
The state’s case rate, tallied since the pandemic began, broke 900 people per 10,000 for the first time in recent memory. It’s highest in Androscoggin County, at 1,209. The hospitalization rate is flat at 2.6%.
The state has now seen 120,600 COVID-19 cases to date, and 1,327 deaths. The people most recently reported to have died include two people in their 60s and one in their 40s, all of them men. One was from Penobscot County and two were from York County.
Maine has administered 2,111,209 doses of vaccine to date, including 297,160 booster shots and 27,416 first doses for kids aged 5 to 11. It means that just under 71.5% of the state’s eligible population has gotten the vaccine.
The state is expected to give an update on the omicron variant and the ongoing surge in Maine at its weekly press briefing Wednesday afternoon.
