Billed the “brightest light display in Maine,” Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay will again welcome visitors to Gardens Aglow starting Saturday.
Now in its 9th season, the display will feature 750,000 lights over 14 acres.
Two of the gardens’ popular trolls — Roskva and Lilja — will be part of the display, along with sculptures of moose, a ruby-throated hummingbird, several ducks, geese, a fox, a turtle, two owls and dragonflies.
Last year, 120,000 people visited Gardens Aglow, including 90,000 from New England. Visitors came from 48 states and 15 countries, according to the gardens.
Gretchen Ostherr, president and CEO of the gardens, said in a statement that among the new displays this year is a handmade lighthouse sculpture.
“The secret to keeping our lightshow exciting is that we design, hand-build, and manage the whole event,” she said. “Like our garden beds in the spring through fall, we are constantly tweaking; from color choices to placement, each year is unique.”
The route to see the lights is about one mile from start to finish.
Tickets must be purchased in advance at shop.mainegardens.org. Arrival times are 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show is open Thursdays through Sundays.
The display will be up through Dec. 31, but is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The cost is $19 for adults; $17 for seniors and veterans; $10 for children ages 3-17; $48 for a family, which is two adults and two children. There is no admission charge for children under 3.
Parking is limited, so visitors are advised to consider carpooling with family and friends.
