The Lewiston Planning Board approved three applications from the Lewiston Housing Authority on Monday that would see new affordable housing come to the city.

Combined, the three proposals would create more than 100 apartments across the city.

One proposal would see a five-story multi-use building built on the corner of Ash and Bates Street. It would consist of retail spaces on the first floor and feature 72 apartments throughout the rest of the building.

An Aug. 2 memo from Terradyn Consultants LLC, a subsidiary of the Lewiston Housing Authority, the project is expected to be financed through the Maine State Housing Authority’s Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program.

The second phase would construct a three-story building at 860 Lisbon St., the site of the former Martel School. The development will feature 44 affordable units for seniors.

The Planning Board also approved a proposal to convert the Ramada Hotel on Pleasant Street into 63 units of affordable senior housing.

According to Housing officials, these units would be converted to meet local and state requirements, as well as be up to date with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
