Karin Tilberg is being recognized for her work in sustainable forest management in Maine with the Austin Wilkins Forest Stewardship Award.

The award is presented annually by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry and highlights individuals for their work in preserving Maine’s forests.

Tilberg started her career as an attorney before becoming advocacy director for the Maine Audubon Society. She later took on roles with the Northern Forest Alliance and Maine Department of Conservation.

Tilberg served under former Gov. John Baldacci as a senior policy advisor, helping to direct and implement Baldacci’s environmental and energy policies. She also co-chaired Baldacci’s Natural Resource Agency Task Force.

Tilberg is currently president and CEO of the Forestry Service of Maine and will be retiring in November.

"Karin Tilberg has been an exemplary leader and a tireless advocate for Maine’s forest stewardship,” said Amanda Beal, commissioner of the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. “Her deep understanding of the intricate balance between conservation and economic vitality has played a significant role in shaping sustainable forestry practices across our state.”

Tilberg will be presented with the award on Oct. 24 by Gov. Janet Mills at the Blaine House and will later that day be recognized at the Maine Timber Research & Environmental Education’s Forest Awards Night.
