The Maine Climate Council is updating the state’s climate action plan and is looking to hear what is important from residents.

The group is going across Maine over the next week as it works on updating the four-year plan as it plans to deliver an updated climate action plan by Dec. 1.

According to the Maine Climate Council’s webpage, “the Council was presented with draft climate strategies compiled by its expert working groups and task forces for potential inclusion in the update.”

The council is considering new or updated strategies in eight areas that include transportation, community resilience and land use.

Task forces for each of the areas evaluated strategies that will be talked about in future meetings and reported on. For example, the Energy Working Group looked at strategies that will decrease energy burdens while transitioning to clean energy. The group is also looking to build the infrastructure needed to achieve 100% clean energy by 2040.

The council has visited Presque Isle, Lewiston and Portland. They will be visiting Bangor on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Bangor Public Library and Ellsworth Public Library the following day.

The Maine Climate Council will wrap up its tour at Biddeford Middle School on Sept. 19.

The meetings are at 6 p.m. and free for anyone to attend.
