A Mexico man has been charged with the killing of a woman on Sept. 26, officials said.

Oxford County dispatch were alerted to the fire at 5 Tucker St. in the town of Mexico shortly after 7 a.m., according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters arrived and found the residence on fire, primarily the front porch area, the release stated.

One female was rescued uninjured from the house. However, the body of Lacey Tidswell, 23, of Mexico was found after the fire was extinguished.

Police on Oct. 4 charged Elijah Cowper, 23, of Mexico with arson and murder.

Cowper was already held at York County Jail on an unrelated charge. He was expected to make an initial court appearance Monday.
