A Lisbon man is in custody following a nine-hour standoff that saw neighbors evacuated from the area Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of domestic violence on Main Street in the Lisbon Falls area of Lisbon shortly before 3:30 p.m.

“Initial reports indicated that a firearm was inside the residence, raising concerns about the potential escalation of the situation,” Lisbon Police Chief Ryan McGee said in a news release.

Law enforcement from Sabattus, the Androscoggin Sheriff's Office and Maine State Police Tactical Team responded to help close off the area.

“For the safety of the community, neighbors surrounding the residence were contacted and evacuated to a safe location,” McGee said.

After nine hours, Thomas Bayne, 59, was taken into custody and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston for evaluation, according to McGee.

Bayne was expected to be transferred to Androscoggin County Jail, McGee said.

Bayne is being charged with assault, terrorizing and creating a police standoff, according to McGee.

“We want to extend our sincere thanks to the Lisbon Fire Department, Lisbon Emergency, Sabattus Police Department, Androscoggin Sheriff's Office, and the Maine State Police for their invaluable assistance in bringing this incident to a safe conclusion,” McGee said.
