Organizers at PortConMaine, the state’s annual convention for local fans of science and fantasy fiction, comics, manga and other pop culture, is off an running for its 20th year.
The event began on Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Doubletree by Hilton and the Maine Mall games arena space in South Portland. Scheduled events include panel discussions with animated voice actors, cosplay competitions and exhibitions, as well as open gaming for role-playing and other games.
The convention will also include appearances, both in-person and virtually, from a host of anime and animated voice actors, including Matt Shipman, Brittany Lauda and Jon Gremillion.
This year, organizers are celebrating the event’s 20th anniversary. According to the convention’s website, the 2020 edition of PortCon was canceled due to the pandemic, but otherwise it has happened regularly since 2002.
