Maureen McCann is a meteorologist forecasting for Spectrum News Maine.

Maureen knew she wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist since the age of four, when Hurricane Gloria blew through her Massachusetts hometown. It's fitting Maureen has landed at Spectrum News where she has been immersed in weather, having worked here through several storms including Matthew, Irma, and Ian.

Maureen graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Atmospheric Science. She kicked off her career in Bangor, Maine followed by stops in Syracuse, New York, and our fellow Spectrum News stations in Florida, Austin, and Texas. Before coming to Spectrum News, Maureen was at KMGH in Denver, Colorado where in addition to her work in-studio, she was often storm chasing. Her adventures with Tim Samaras’ TWISTEX research team turned into an Emmy award-winning special that was also honored by the Colorado Broadcaster's Association.

Maureen is one of very few meteorologists to hold three certifications: Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and Certified Consulting Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS), and the Television Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. The AMS designated her a Fellow in 2021, and honor given to less than one percent of members.

Maureen’s priority is always to make sure everyone is safe and prepared in a weather crisis. Maureen earned a Master's Degree in Emergency and Crisis Management at the University of Central Florida and a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems.

Maureen enjoys getting the chance to bridge her interests in meteorology and emergency management by teaching FEMA-certified coursework to emergency managers and public safety officials. In 2022, she was honored with the UCF Emergency Management Alumni Achievement Award.

As active as Maureen is with forecasting weather, she’s just as active outside the newsroom. She’s a big fan of all Boston sports teams and likes to ski, practice yoga, play tennis and golf, and run. In 2024, Maureen married her fiancé, Bryan.
