HONOLULU — Hawaiian Airlines canceled 15 interisland flights Monday and two more on Tuesday.
On Monday, the cancellations were because of COVID-19-related staffing shortages as well as crew rest, aircraft maintenance and airport traffic. The two interisland cancellations on Tuesday were because of aircraft availability due to maintenance.
The 15 cancellations on Monday were out of a total of 146 interisland flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines.
"All guests were reaccommodated on other flights, and we thank them for their patience and understanding," Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson Marissa Villegas said.
Last Thursday, Villegas told Spectrum News Hawaii that 175 employees who had tested positive for COVID-19 were unable to come to work, and another 262 employees were self-isolating and monitoring symptoms after a possible exposure.
The Monday and Tuesday cancellations came after Hawaiian Airlines canceled 41 flights over the weekend and canceled another 27 flights on Friday.
Across the U.S., many airlines have had to postpone or cancel flights due to COVID-19-related staffing shortages.
