HONOLULU — The Moanalua “Big Three” will take the next step of their volleyball careers with another title: All-Americans.

The University of Hawaii-bound trio of Kai Rodriguez, Justin Todd and Zack Yewchuk were named first-team high school All-Americans by the AVCA on Wednesday.

Twenty-three seniors were named to the first and second teams and honorable mentions. Moanalua’s three were the only players from a Hawaii high school on the complete list. Twelve hailed from California.

In their only season playing together after relocating to Hawaii from the mainland and Canada, Rodriguez, Todd and Yewchuck saw their careers come to an end with a five-set semifinal loss to eventual state champion Punahou. Todd had 22 kills and 11 digs and Rodriguez had 20 kills and four blocks in the May 12 loss.

Of players to make the first and second teams, UH and Loyola Marymount had the most signees of any school with three. Penn State and UCLA signed two.

UH also recently expanded its 2024 recruiting class. It announced the signings of setter Kevin Kauling, pin hitter Aleksa Mandic, and opposite Oguzhan Oguz.

Kauling is a graduate transfer from Lewis and was an AVCA All-America second-teamer in 2022 but missed part of the 2023 season with an injury. Mandic, of Serbia, plays club ball for Partizan and will arrive as a freshman. Oguz, of Turkey, played one season at Jamestown College in North Dakota.
