A feral pig special hunt is open at two Hawaii Island locations through Feb. 28, 2025, the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife announced on Monday.
The hunt is taking place at:
The Puu Mali Restoration Area portion of Unit A, Mauna Kea Game Management Area and Forest Reserve, excluding the central safety zone of that area.
The Kaohe Restoration Area of Unit G, Kaohe Game Management Area and Restoration Area.
Hunting is allowed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (excluding state and federal holidays) during the general game bird hunting season, which ends on Jan. 25, 2025, and every day thereafter until Feb. 28.
Shotguns are prohibited but hunters may use rifles, knives and dogs. There is no bag limit for pigs and no limit on hunter group size or number of dogs.
Each participating hunter is required to fill out a permit form at the Kilohana hunter check station at the Kaohe Restoration Area or at the posted mailbox near the front gate to the Puu Mali Restoration Area. For this special hunt, hunters must use the check-in/check-out sheet at the respective check station; digital check-in and check-out via the Outerspatial mobile app is not available.
