MADISON, Wis. — A Madison organization is working to bridge the digital divide between citizens in their communities.
On Monday, the Urban League of Greater Madison was given a grant to help further their mission.
The organization received $35,000 from Spectrum through the company’s Digital Education Grant program. Members of the Urban League’s “Computer Bootcamp” were there, and each student received a new Google Chromebook.
Urban League President Ruben Anthony said the grant will be critical in helping more people be successful in the digital age.
“It’s essential. It’s almost as essential as having a telephone or electricity in your house,” Anthony said. “In order to be able to fully participate in society today, you need to have wifi access. You need to know how to use a computer.”
This is the Urban League’s third grant in five years, bringing Spectrum's total support to $90,000.
Charter Communications is the parent company of Spectrum News.
