CLEVELAND — The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the books. The Cleveland Browns picked in the first round for the first time in four years, but it wasn’t with the No. 2 overall pick.
The team traded down to No. 5 to take Mason Graham from Michigan, also acquiring a 2nd and 4th round pick in this year's draft and Jacksonville's 2026 1st round pick. The move led to mixed reactions from Browns season ticket holders.
The Cleveland Browns kicked off the 2025 NFL Draft in style at Huntington Bank Field with a concert from Journey.
The excitement in the stadium quickly turned to frustration for some season ticket holders in attendance after the trade and selection of Graham. The Browns' presumed selection with the 2nd pick was Travis Hunter, who got picked by the Jaguars.
“I had my heart dead set on Travis Hunter, and I’m pretty angry we didn’t take him," Steffann Warszawski said.
Warszawski has been a season ticket holder for five seasons and said he wanted to see the team address the offense rather than the defense with their first pick.
“We needed to take offensive weapons. We desperately need more," Warszawski said.
Not all Browns fans came away from Thursday night disappointed. Ray Kirchner has been a Browns fan since before the team’s last championship in 1964.
“I used to come down to games and watch Jim Brown play," Kirchner said.
Kirchner said he even remembers listening to the Browns win in the 1964 NFL championship game on the radio.
“Collins caught three touchdown passes, it was a great game," Kirchner said.
While he thinks the team is a few years away from a championship level, he thinks the Browns selection of Graham and the trade with the Jaguars will help lead to more wins on the field next season and beyond.
“I think it makes you a better team especially defensively," Kirchner said. "They’ve got a decent defense, offense has got some work to do. He’s a great lineman it’s a good addition for the Browns.”
The 2025 NFL Draft continues on Friday night with the second and third rounds. The Browns hold two of the top four picks in the second round and will begin the night with the 33rd overall selection.
