An inmate who escaped an eastern North Carolina prison Thursday was found Monday evening after four days on the run, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

Francisco Cardenas, 32, escaped Hyde Correctional Center in Swan Quarter, according to state prison officials. That is a minimum security prison near Swan Quarter in northeast North Carolina.

"A tip from a resident led deputies to a section of U.S. 264 East near Swan Quarter where Cardenas was located walking along a roadside and was arrested without incident," the corrections department said.

Cardenas was convicted in Lee County for drug trafficking and sentenced to five to eight years, according to prison records.

He was due for release in 2029.

He will now be charged with felony escape and moved to a more secure prison.
