With the hoopla of the NFL Draft behind them, the rookie class for the Buffalo Bills is focused in on football.
For third-round pick Landon Jackson, it’s all about remembering what got him here as he kicks off his first NFL campaign.
Jackson’s debut at rookie minicamp last weekend had him anxious to hit the field and prove why the Bills wanted the big defensive end out of Arkansas.
"I came in a little nervous. It’s something I’ve been dreaming of my whole life. I finally got to this point," Jackson said. "So nerves were a little rattled early in the day, not really once I got out here and got the blood flowing, but more so in meetings and everything. Not going to say overthinking, but, you know, just kind of nervous."
But Jackson knows he’s here for a reason. At 6’6", he's athletic and an All-Conference performer in the SEC, perhaps the toughest conference in college football.
"Go back to my roots," Jackson said. "Hard work, fly around. A play doesn’t go well, blank it, onto the next play. So basically just stick to my roots, know I’m a hard worker, just fly around [and] do all I can to make myself look like I deserve to be on this team."
The Bills revamped their defensive line with the playoffs in mind. Jackson was the second of three straight defensive linemen they took in the draft, between T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker.
"We know the talent we have and we were All-SEC defensive linemen," Jackson said. "It’s great to get all of us in one room and I think we can all play really well."
Jackson has drawn comparisons to his new Bills teammate Greg Rousseau and he’s already connected with Rousseau and veteran standout Joey Bosa.
Next step for the rookies is to get on the field with those vets in a couple of weeks at OTAs.
