SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar is asking that District Attorney Nico LaHood provide "independent investigative assistance" in the Schertz shooting that killed two.

Deputies shot and killed Amanda Lene Jones, 30, on Thursday after she allegedly threatened them. Six-year-old Kameron Prescott also died after he was hit by a stray bullet.

The four deputies involved in the shooting are currently on temporary administrative leave, and originally said that Jones had a gun on her at the time of her death.

No gun was found on the scene, but a "tubular" object was found under the porch where Jones was shot, according to Salazar at a Friday press conference.

As the investigation into shooting continues, LaHood will assign a dedicated assistant district attorney and an additional investigator, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office on Monday. The additional investigator will review evidence and witness statements.
