AUSTIN, Texas – Children are taking the stage are warning about the effects of opioid addictions through theater.

Pollyanna Theatre's "The Secret of the Soap and Spin" follows Vic, a 10-year-old, whose mother disappears at the Soap and Spin Laundromat.

Vic comes across an out of order dryer that turns out to be a portal to the underworld where he meets Lint, Mop, Dusty, and Broom, along with everything that was lost in the world above.

The playwright, Jonathan Graham, said the setting and its characters are all metaphors for the struggle with both the addict and their loved ones.

Graham explains why he, along with Pollyanna's artistic director Judy Matetzschk-Campbell, felt it's important for children to be exposed to the national conversation.

The “Secret of the Soap and Spin” will be performed at the Long Center until May 20th.
