AUSTIN, Texas — A man in his 20s is dead after drowning in Barton Springs Pool, Austin-Travis Co. EMS confirmed last Thursday.
Police have identified the 20-year-old as Carlo Hurtado*.
On Thursday, May 17, medics were called to Barton Springs Pool just before 6 p.m. for a water rescue. The man was located underwater for an unknown amount of time.

A lifegaurd trainee with the City of Austin, before EMS arrived, helped locate Hurtado and performed CPR but was unable to revive him.
EMS also attempted CPR when they arrived and were also unsuccessful, pronouncing him dead at the scene just after 6:15 p.m.
Police want to remind citizens what with the summer season starting up, that when out in waterway, look after your friends, wear lifejackets if needed and be mindful of your surroundings.
*The story has been updated to correct the identity of the swimmer after confusion related to another drowning that occurred on May 13. Spectrum News previously reported the identification as Israel Olayemi, age 26. Olayemi's body was found at the Greenbelt, and it was later determined that his cause of death was drowning.
